when a gravel event turns into an unforgettable adventure.

After the final gravel kilometer, the Gravel Around Salzkammergut is far from over. Because this is not just about riding — it’s about celebrating. Right after crossing the finish line in St. Georgen, the event area transforms into one huge stage for everything this day stands for: community, emotions, and the pure joy of gravel riding.

With a live DJ, powerful beats, and atmospheric lighting, this is where the biggest finisher party a gravel event can offer comes to life. Embedded in the legendary town festival with around 5,000 visitors, athletes, fans, and finishers of the Race Around Austria come together — turning the finish line into a true cycling celebration.

Whether you’re celebrating a personal best, raising a toast with new cycling friends, or simply taking a moment to realize what you’ve just achieved — there’s hardly a better place to cross the finish line.

PARKING

Parking in St. Georgen is available free of charge at designated, easily accessible parking areas outside the town center. The start and finish area can also be reached via the Vöcklamarkt–Attersee local railway, with a direct connection to the Westbahn rail network.

Boxes

Shortly before the start, you can drop off your box for the DEPOT in Bad Ischl at the stage area after 100 or 150 kilometers. The box is included in the starter package (IKEA Pappis model, 25 × 34 × 26 cm). You can pack anything you may need during the ride into this box: nutrition, clothing, or spare equipment. You will also have the opportunity to place clothing or empty bottles back into the box at the depot locations. Please bring the box with you personally to the start area. In addition, drinking water will be available at the depots in Bad Ischl so you can refill your bottles. After the last participant has passed through Bad Ischl, the boxes will be transported back to the finish area, where they can be collected again. We expect the boxes to arrive at the finish around 8:00 PM.

SAFETY EQUIPMENT

Participants who are still on the course at 8:00 PM must equip their bicycles with lights in accordance with Austrian road traffic regulations (StVO). The lighting equipment may be placed in the depot box. Continuing the ride after 8:00 PM without proper lighting equipment and the required road-legal setup is strictly prohibited.

App-Tracking

Participants will be tracked via Komoot. A mobile phone and the app are required for this. Please ensure sufficient battery capacity throughout the ride. It is therefore mandatory to carry a power bank in order to charge both your phone and your navigation device if needed.

SHOWER

Shower facilities are located at the school center — the route from the finish area is marked with large signposts.

ACCOMODATIONS

In addition to classic accommodation options in the region, resting facilities are available in the sports hall (directly next to the showers).

The exact route of the Gravel Around Salzkammergut (the .gpx file) will be provided to participants a few days before the race. If you would like to test and ride the route in advance, we recommend following the officially signposted cycling routes in the area.

The course includes sections that may only be ridden during the Gravel Around Salzkammergut event itself. During training rides, please respect the designated access times on the respective forest roads. Gravel Around Salzkammergut is not a race — not a competition against others, not about rankings or results, but about everything that defines a true unsupported gravel adventure. It’s about being out there, about the route, and about your personal achievement. Helping each other in case of need is allowed, as is riding in a slipstream.

Please note that the course is not marked, participation is entirely at your own risk, and Austrian road traffic regulations must be followed on all sections of the route. Respect the environment and nature, as well as hikers and other road users — especially on shared trails used by pedestrians, hikers, and cyclists alike, such as the eastern shore of Lake Hallstatt or forest roads that are also designated hiking paths. Always expect obstacles on roads, paths, and gravel sections, and ride according to the conditions with care and foresight. Most importantly: take care of yourself, your safety, and your health. Equip yourself appropriately for the weather and carry sufficient nutrition and supplies. You should also have a personal contingency plan in case of a DNF (Did Not Finish). We further recommend having adequate liability and accident insurance for cycling activities and participation in the event, as we are operating in alpine terrain where rescue and recovery costs can be significant.

By registering for the Gravel Around Salzkammergut via the official registration form and paying the participation fee on time, a starting place for the event is secured. The personal data provided during registration will be processed and stored electronically in accordance with GDPR and within the legitimate interests of the organizer. The entry fee is non-refundable. Transfers of starting places to another person or to another event year are not permitted. Taking out participant cancellation insurance (e.g. travel insurance) is the responsibility of the participant and is expressly recommended. In the event of cancellation due to force majeure (e.g. flooding, severe weather, extreme conditions, official regulations, legal restrictions, or route closures), as well as in cases of non-starting, withdrawal, abandonment, or shortening of the event, there is no entitlement to a refund of the participation fee or reimbursement of any other costs (especially travel or accommodation expenses). Participation is subject to acceptance of these terms and conditions and the submission of the liability waiver signed by all athletes and support crew members at race headquarters.
